July is Independent Retailer month. We take the time this month to remind you to help support the small businesses in your community. While big box stores like Walmart are convenient, there are so many Independent Retailers that offer us homegrown flavor, local crafts and finds. These Independent Retailers are our neighbors, our friends, and our farmers. Whether they run the corner store or they make beautiful handcrafted furniture or gifts, take some time this and every month to support your local small businesses.
There’s been a lot of loss of culture and community throughout the years as big box companies move in and start driving the smaller companies out of business. Shopping with small retailers keeps the money in your community and keeps the dreams of many entrepreneurs alive. Independent Retailer Month is your opportunity to get out and support your local community and help these small business owners survive. Since the creation of Independent Retailer Month, millions of dollars in revenue have been returned to local businesses as people start shopping locally and discovering the hometown feel you get from shopping with your friends and neighbors.
So each time you need to purchase a gift, food for your family, or something for that special person think about the small shops in your town or a neighboring town. Get out there and shop at local stores and farmers markets and hire a local repairman or painter. Know that when you buy from a local store, all of that money stays in the community helping to keep the local flavor alive.
