A lot of business network projects start with a simple request.
In this case, the client needed a new Ethernet jack installed at a workstation area, along with some cleanup and organization behind the scenes for their network IP address ranges. Simple on paper, but like most IT projects, there’s usually more than one way to tackle it.
After reviewing the layout and the existing wiring, our team walked through a few different options for the Ethernet installation. We could reroute an existing cable, use a small switch to extend connectivity, or run an entirely new cable directly from the network closet to the new location.
While there are situations where the quicker options make sense, we recommended a fresh cable run for this project. It keeps the setup cleaner, more reliable, easier to troubleshoot later, and overall closer to “the right way” to build a business network.
So that’s exactly what we did.
Our techs scheduled onsite time, gathered supplies, climbed through ceiling spaces, ran fresh Ethernet cabling, terminated the connections, installed wall plates, and fully tested both cable runs to make sure everything was working properly before wrapping up the project.
Like many real-world projects, there was one small hiccup along the way. We realized the exact wall plates needed to finish the install were not on hand during the first visit. Rather than forcing a workaround or leaving something looking unfinished, we ordered the correct parts and returned to complete everything properly.
On the networking side, we also helped organize and configure the client’s IP address ranges. Static assignments were set for key network equipment like the firewall and switch infrastructure, printer ranges were separated out for easier management, and DHCP ranges were organized for dynamic devices across the network.
It’s the kind of behind-the-scenes work most people never see, but it helps keep a business network cleaner, easier to manage, and more dependable long term.
Projects like this are a good reminder that solid IT infrastructure is not always flashy. Sometimes it’s properly terminated network connections, organized IP ranges, and taking the extra time to make sure everything is configured correctly.
Whether we’re helping coordinate network cabling projects, setting up business networking equipment, or organizing the systems behind the scenes, our goal is always the same: building technology setups that are reliable, manageable, and ready to grow with your business.
