Project Description

At Layer 2 Computers, we're not just about business; we're all tech enthusiasts at heart! One of our talented techs recently embarked on a personal project that we couldn't wait to share with you. It's a story of transformation, innovation, and a second chance for a "dumpster PC" that was on the brink of oblivion!

Here's the scoop: We rescued an old, forgotten PC that was drawing way too much power from an ancient graphics card, leading to constant crashes and frustration. ‍ But our tech wasn't about to give up on this relic! They rolled up their sleeves, got creative, and turned this lost soul into a gaming powerhouse on a budget.

Here's what they did:

1. DIY Mesh Siding: Our tech gave the PC a sleek and functional makeover with DIY mesh siding. Not only does it look cool, but it also helps with airflow.

2. Added Fans: To keep things cool during those intense gaming sessions, extra fans were strategically placed for optimal airflow and temperature control.

3. Graphics Card Swap: The culprit behind the power drain was an old AMD video card guzzling a staggering 375W! Our tech replaced it with a more energy efficient Nvidia GTX 1660S (125W) without sacrificing gaming performance.

4. CPU Upgrade: An i5-9400F was brought in to supercharge the PC, making it more powerful while still running on less than 375W in total!

The result? A fully functional 1080p gaming PC that's not only ready for action but also saved from being discarded. Best of all, the entire transformation cost less than $500!

We love sharing our passion for tech, whether it's on the job or during our free time. Have a tech project of your own in mind? Feel free to share; we're always up for a challenge!
