We’ve been working with a newer customer to get their network cleaned up and unified, and this one was a satisfying “out with the old, in with the new” kind of day.
The goal was simple: replace their firewall, switch, and WiFi access point so everything plays nicely together under one setup, instead of a mix of gear that does its own thing. To keep the onsite visit smooth, we preconfigured the Netgate firewall a few days ahead of time so we weren’t starting from scratch on installation day.
Where you wondering what a firewall, switch, or access point actually did?
On the day of the upgrade, we swapped in the new firewall, switch, and access point, then brought everything online and confirmed the basics were solid. Uptime monitoring is now active so we get alerted if something goes offline, and their VPN is up and running for secure remote access.
While we were there, we also set up a dedicated travel laptop with the new VPN access, so they have a ready to go option for working safely when they are out and about.
It’s one of those projects that isn’t flashy, but it makes day to day work smoother, more reliable, and a whole lot easier to support going forward.
If your network is a mix of old gear, flaky WiFi, or remote access that feels like a gamble, give Layer 2 Computers a call and we can talk through what a cleanup and refresh would look like for your space.
