Every piece of technology has its season—and this server had a good run.
When one of our long-time clients moved their operations fully to the cloud, it was finally time to say goodbye to their on-site server. But before anything gets unplugged for good, there’s a little more to it than just flipping a switch.
We started by taking a full backup of the virtual machine that had been running on the server. Even though the client had already transitioned off the system a month earlier, we wanted to make sure they had access to any remaining data just in case. A screenshot from the backup process helped us document the handoff—peace of mind all around.
Once we confirmed they had everything they needed, it was time for the official decommissioning. We powered it down for the last time, removed the hard drives, and securely destroyed them. Crushed, not just wiped—because when it comes to your data, we don’t take chances.
After that? We dismantled the hardware and sorted out the components for recycling. Some of the non-sensitive parts, like the chassis or old RAM sticks, we save for local students or hobbyists who love tinkering and learning. It’s our little way of giving back and reducing e-waste at the same time.
We’ve said it before, but we’ll say it again: Tech should work for you—not sit in a closet collecting dust. If you're still running aging hardware, or wondering if it's time to retire an old system, reach out. We’ll help you make a clean, secure, and responsible exit.
