Every now and then, we get a computer that tells a story the second we open it up. This one? It had chapters.
Our client dropped off their desktop because it wasn’t running quite right. Sluggish performance, random overheating, fans working overtime… the usual signs that something deeper might be going on.
So, we popped it open.
And wow.
We’re talking dust bunnies galore. Honestly, with Easter around the corner, it felt… on theme. Layers of dust packed into fans, vents completely clogged, and that fine, fluffy buildup that only comes from years of loyal service in a busy environment.
At that point, a standard clean-out was definitely needed. Normally, we’d go with our tried-and-true method: careful disassembly, compressed air, detail cleaning, and putting everything back together good as new.
But this time, we had a thought.
What if we could be… more efficient?
Instead of the usual process, we decided to try a faster route.
We removed the outer case, secured the components, and ran the system through a full dishwasher cycle. Obviously not with our dirty dishes and utensils. We know better than to cross contaminate!
Gentle wash, thorough rinse, and of course… a high heat dry cycle to finish things off.
Because if you’re going to clean it… you might as well really clean it.
Once everything cooled down and dried completely, we reassembled the system and powered it back on.
And honestly?
It ran better than ever.
Fans were quiet, airflow was restored, and the inside of that machine was absolutely sparkling. Easily one of the cleanest systems we’ve seen come back to life.
Because as satisfying as this one was…
There are definitely safer ways to handle spring cleaning.
Like… literally any other way.
Happy April Fools from all of us at Layer 2 Computers
But seriously… if your computer sounds like it’s about to take off, it might be time for a real cleaning.
