Goal: Set up Multi-Factor Authentication for your Microsoft 365 Account for Work. It wil be best if you are at your work computer with your smartphone.

  1. On your smartphone download an app called Microsoft Authenticator (once completed, move on to next step) NOTE: If you already use Microsoft Authenticator for the VPN you do NOT need to redownload it.
    Apple App Store Link
    Google Play Store Link
  2. On a computer (ideally) go to https://aka.ms/MFASetup
  3. If you are not logged in to your Microsoft Account for work, you will be prompted to login. Use your work email and password.
  4. You may be prompted with this screen, in that case click Next.
  1. Click Next to confirm that you have the Microsoft Authenticator App already on your smartphone. If you don't review step 1 to download the correct app.
  1. Your screen should then look like this:
  1. Open Microsoft Authenticator on your smartphone.
  2. Tap the + at the top right.
  1. Tap Work or School Account
  1. Tap Scan QR Code
  1. Use your phone's camera to align the QR code in the box, it will auto scan and add your account to Microsoft Authenticator.
  1. Follow any other promotes on your phone's school and website to finish linking your MS365 account with Microsoft Authenticator. You may be asked to confirm with a push notification, text message, or another method. This is normal.

Congrats! Your Microsoft Account is now set up! In the event of a multi-factor authentication challenge, you will get a push notification on your phone. If this is you logging in to your account, you can approve it. In the event that you get a prompt randomly when you are not expecting it, always deny the prompt and contact us.
