What is your role & how long have you been with Layer 2 Computers?
I am the Office Admin & have been with Layer 2 for a little over a year now. Previously, I was part time, but I'm thrilled that I'm now the full-time human that will answer when you call for assistance from Layer 2 Computers.
What is your background in Administrative Support?
My part-time job in high school was doing data entry & I've done some form of admin support since. I graduated college with a tech-based degree MANY years ago - but chose to be a stay-at-home mom for a few years when my daughter was born. The tech industry waits for no-one. When I was ready to re-enter the workforce, the entry level jobs were not plentiful and I could actually earn more going back to my roots in admin support and that's where I've stayed.
Do you ever get to work on tech stuff, apart from the usual admin tasks?
I do! We joke that I'm "Tech Zero" because I have taken on a few tasks that are a little more "tech" than the normal office admin tasks. I love the challenge & learning new things every day! Also, while I won’t try to diagnose anything for you - I can usually offer some reassurance that you don’t need to worry about that annoying popup while you wait for your appointment with one of the techs!
Are there any tools that you find particularly helpful in your role?
Our VOIP phone system & MS Teams are the best tools for me. They allow all of us to work remotely and yet stay connected as a team!
Tell us about life outside of work.
I am the proud mom to two (25 & 19 years old) and grandma to two (5 years & 7 weeks old). I grew up in Columbus and moved to Springboro about 10 years ago, where I met David at Ohio Sports Academy. My daughter graduated from Springboro and is now at OU - so I just moved back to Columbus (literally the day this is posted) to be closer to my family. I also have 3 cats who keep me highly entertained.
What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work?
Funny enough, my 19-year-old daughter told me that now that I'm not working all the time (prior to moving I had a job in the evening too) - I need to get some "grandma hobbies." I do love to garden and explore new parks. I just bought an embroidery kit and would like to learn that. I think that’s “grandma” enough!
What's your favorite travel destination or dream vacation spot?
I have never been on a cruise, and it is my goal to take one as soon as possible! I am manifesting more travel into my future! Anyplace warm will do! (Will happily take suggestions &/or invites ;) )
Is there anything else you'd like to share, whether it's a fun fact, a favorite quote, or a simple message?
Life is short. Embrace and enjoy every moment that you can. Try new things! Color your hair weird colors! Hold that baby as long as you want! WEAR THE BATHING SUIT - in public even!! Wear the silly colorful shirt that your kids say is cringy! The older I get the more I wish I felt this freedom when I was younger. The young ones may have the energy & the bodies that don’t ache - but I wouldn't trade that for the freedom inside my head for anything!
